Early Life
After the divorce, Ashley and Wynonna moved to Kentucky with their mother, which is where they have their roots. During this time, Judd attended 13 different schools across Kentucky and Tennessee. Following her high school graduation, she briefly modeled in Japan before enrolling at the University of Kentucky, where she studied French, anthropology, art history, theater, and women’s studies. Upon completing her degree, she drove to Hollywood, studying acting while working at a restaurant. Eventually, she moved back to Tennessee to be near her family.
Years later, Judd returned to the University of Kentucky, securing her Bachelor’s degree, and was later awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Union College.

The role that brought Ashley Judd to prominence was in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” where she appeared in two early 90s episodes. She subsequently landed a recurring role in NBC’s drama “Sisters.” Around the same time, she made her film debut with a brief appearance in “Kuffs,” followed by a starring role in the independent film “Ruby in Paradise.” This led to subsequent roles in films such as “Natural Born Killers,” “Smoke,” and “Heat,” with a notable performance as Marilyn Monroe in “Norma Jean and Marilyn.”

Personal Life
Judd began dating Dario Franchitti, a Scottish racing driver, in 1999, and they married in 2001. However, after twelve years together, they divorced. The couple did not have children, as Ashley identifies as an antinatalist, believing that bringing new life into the world is ethically unjustifiable.
In February 2022, while hiking through the jungle in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Judd suffered a leg fracture. It took African porters 55 hours to transport her to a hospital in South Africa for surgery. A year later, she returned to Congo on another humanitarian mission.
